Good fortune births misfortune
The favors of the gods above had trailed after Jin Bi. Legend says even at birth gold was found in his clenched fists. Someone raised in luxury such as he is simply a bird in a golden cage, held captive in splendor away from the horrors of the rest of the world. Here, his passion for beauty was cultivated. Exotic animals, fine silks, glittering jewels set in delicately carved gold, and the most coveted art that struck wonder when one looked at it. He was worshipped, people traveled from far and wide to see the young vessel of the god of fortune. They loved him, and so he loved them in return. They brought him things of uncomparable beauty, and he brought good fortune and blessings into their lives.
Soon, the city where his golden cage sat, Uzahara, had become a bustling center for luxury goods around the world. A haven for the rich and powerful, protected by the god himself, and held as a shining example for the rest of the earth. Jin Bi sat at it's center. It was everything he had ever dreamed of, painted with the stoke of his golden paintbrush into the perfect masterpiece.

The scales must be balanced, always. For if they tip it will bring nothing but death and destruction. In the beginning of life itself, the gods had fought a terrible war over the celestial plane and new creation below, with the whisperings of a great darkness in their ears. Unable to bear the fighting anymore, the mother goddess split them asunder. The spirit has two parts, you see, one that lays in the light and the other submerged in shadows. When she struck them down the pieces sought human hosts to bring balance to the earth.
His name was Tsui Lark, and everything he touched withered away to dust. His dilapidated home sat on the outskirts of town amongst the slums, and as the rich of Uzahara grew richer and more corrupt he felt the color leeching from the edges of city. Jin Bi had flown away, one night in a rage over something inconsequntial, and saw the suffering and utter poverty the majority of people were crushed under. Looking into those red eyes when the young god saw that boy standing amonst the grime, he knew. That for every blessing from Jin Bi's hands would come a plague from Tsui Lark's, for every man who gained a fortune another would succumb deeper into the desolation. Yet in that moment, it was if a piece of his soul had clicked into place.
It's strange, isn't it? How the heart can change.
Ever since that day, when the golden bars of the cage holding him in shattered into dust, Jin Bi had felt a new wind blow through the city. For ever beautiful painting he made, another canvas was shredded to pieces. So he swore to travel the lands of Nagon until his feet could no longer carry his body, painting the cities and towns along the way with a cornucopia of fortune.
And when that boy came to wipe it all away, he would paint it even brighter and more beauitful again and again, the fire driving him never burning out. Balance was for fools, his mind spurred him on, and so he would bring beauty like the world had never seen until it washed out ever ugly thing. For years he had languished in his prison, carried only by what he had or those who lined up outside the temple. Now, Jin Bi was perhaps the most fortunate in the land, owner of the most precious treasure:
Passion.
